The Indonesian Confrontation (Konfrontasi) (1963-1966): Australia's Allies: Britain and other Commonwealth forces

Overview: Video - Interview with Neil Davis

Interview with Neil Davis

This excerpt of an interview with cameraman Neil Davis, features the legendary war correspondent speaking about his first experience of armed conflict; the Confrontation with Indonesia in Borneo. Here he speaks about the Ghurkhas and the high regard in which he holds them. Davis went on to forge a reputation in Vietnam as one of the world’s leading combat cameraman. Having covered the war for 11 years, often placing himself in enormous danger to get the footage he wanted, and having been wounded on several occasions Davis survived Vietnam only to be killed on a Bangkok street during a 1985 coup attempt. Coups being relatively common in Thailand, Davis’ death soon overshadowed the story he had been covering in the world’s media. (2:44 min - Colour - Sound) [AWM F10571]
